Uncertainty can not be managed with old recipes
Managing uncertainty is high on the agenda of my clients. What do you do when no experts have the solution? 🤔 When your usual recipes don’t work? 🤔 Where it seems there isn’t any direct link between cause-and-effect ie you can’t predict and be certain about the results of your actions? 🤔
💡 If you find that your efforts to solve problems aren't yielding results, it's possible that you are trying to manage uncertainty with recipes designed for a predictable environment. Revisiting your approach may be necessary.
I came across this interesting HBR article where the authors emphasize the need to look at not all the data but the few exceptional information, not only listen but question with powerful questions (what, who, where, when, how) the situation, get used to plan and replan, and manage your emotions by listening to them, acting intentionally and resetting your emotional experience. Not easy to do and coaching can definitely help!
